Salida & Leadville Community Contra Dances
AVMAD is committed to offering contra dances in Salida & Leadville.
What is community dancing?
Come one, Come all! These fun gatherings always include live music and calling that is sure to make you
feel welcome and get your feet stomping. All dances
are taught and called, so no experience is necessary.
Also, since we often change partners during or after a dance, you can come alone or with
a big group. Dances are typically held the 3rd weekend of the month. See schedule below
for more details and the few exceptions (ie: the Halloween Dance)
SALIDA DANCES
Held usually on the 3rd Saturday of the month (see schedule below) and usually at the Salida Scout Hut in Riverside Park (again confirm with schedule) from 7:30pm - 10pm. Bring your kids at the
beginning for easier dances especially
for families! Slightly harder dances after the break. Bring a yummy treat for the dessert potluck. Cost: $10/person ($5/person minimum suggested but no one is turned away)
Dances are co-sponsored by Salida Recreation.
LEADVILLE DANCES
Held at St. George's Episcopal Church (200 W 4th) from 7pm - 9:30pm on select months.

Dances of Universal Peace
First Friday of each month, All year.
7:30 - 9:30 PM, at the Salida Yoga Studio at 112 F St. $5 per person.
The Dance of Universal Peace (DUP) is a heart-centered circle dance that fosters
connection to community and all life. The dances are taught each time so no prior
experience is necessary. The dances are coordinated with spiritual lyrics and performed
with intention. Guitar playing accompanies the singing and dancing. It can be described
as ecstatic, deeply moving, and inspiring body-prayer. The lyrics come from any of the
many spiritual traditions, honoring the oneness and truth of all.
